It's been a while since I last posted, but it's been a busy few months for me. I've been working on a series of commissions and preparing for upcoming shows with Fairfax Gallery in the UK and Arcadia Contemporary in New York, as well as working one to one with a number of artists and working on a complete redesign of this website - stay tuned for some hopefully exciting new ways to commission me or collect my work that I’ll unveil soon.
In the meantime I thought I’d share with you a sneak peek of a current commission that I'm working on.
As some of you may know, I often start my paintings on a light value grey ground. This is because working direct on the bright white of the blank panel makes it harder to judge the light values in skin tones, which can tend to look darker than they really are when painting on a white surface.
Additionally, it provides a unifying tone to balance the overall color of the piece. For small studies like this, taking time to hit my colours fairly accurately straight off keeps the piece feeling fresh and brings a more life-like quality to the work.
I promise to keep you all updated on my new series of works for the upcoming shows. In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or are interested in commissioning a piece or purchasing one of my available works.
